Training and education are vital to every successful GIS implementation, but keeping GIS skills and knowledge up to date can be a challenge. In recognition of the fact that different people have distinct learning styles and training goals, ESRI Eastern Africa offers a variety of training opportunities, both in the classroom and over the Internet.

Instructor-Led Training
ESRI EA offers a wide variety of instructor-led courses that explain GIS concepts, explore GIS applications, and teach people to use ESRI GIS software and related technologies. Instructor-led courses combine personal delivery, hands-on experience, and class participation to create a rich learning environment. ESRI instructor-led courses are taught at our ESRI Authorized Learning Centre in Nairobi and by our authorized training partners in the neighbouring countries, and can also be hosted at individual client sites. Virtual Classroom
The Virtual Classroom combines the focus of an instructor-led course with the convenience of Web-based training. Students can remain productive while they learn, and organisations can save on the costs associated with employee travel. Each Virtual Classroom course includes nine hours of training on a focused topic delivered in three consecutive half-day sessions over the Internet. Morning and afternoon sessions allow students to schedule training that best fits their workday. Small class sizes support communication among students and with the instructor. Expert instruction, convenience, and an interactive classroom-like environment are hallmarks of Virtual Classroom training.

ESRI Virtual Campus Web-Based Training
Since 1998, ESRI Virtual Campus has offered self-paced GIS training and education over the Internet. Today, there are more than 335,000 Virtual Campus members located around the world, working in a wide variety of industries. Virtual Campus Web-based training combines interactive exercises, conceptual material, and instructional resources to create a rich learning environment. Free Live Training Seminars
ESRI software users can receive free GIS training on the Web. Live training seminars feature presentations and demonstrations on focused topics by subject matter experts. Attendees can ask questions and get answers in real time.

Podcasts
With ESRI Instructional Series podcasts, you can access free ESRI software training on demand. You can download and listen to these short audio recordings on your computer or take them with you on your MP3 player. In each podcast, an expert discusses a topic such as improving workflow, tricks for optimizing a geodatabase, and updates on new software features.

ESRI Press Books
Books and self-study workbooks published by ESRI Press are ideal for highly motivated learners who can independently complete the work and apply what they have learned with little outside support. Books and workbooks are for those who prefer self-directed study or reading offline.
